Baratunde Aole Cola

Graduate Student, Mechanical Engineering Department, Purdue University

The King – a native of Pensacola, Florida - is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Over the past six years his M.S. and Ph.D. research has focused on heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and nanotechnology. His research interests include nanoscale energy systems, synthesis of nanomaterials, measurement of thermal properties, microfluids and cooling of microelectronics. While at Purdue he received many honors and awards including an Intel Foundation Fellowship, Purdue Doctoral Fellowship, and NASA–INaC Fellowship. He was also a finalist for the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Award.

The King received his M.S. and B.E. from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. As an undergraduate and master’s graduate student he played football and received the Vanderbilt Football Dedication Award. The King is affiliated with many organizations and programs including: the Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professorate (AGEP) program, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE), and Purdue’s Nanotechnology Student Advisory Council (NSAC). The King’s name can be seen in several peer reviewed journals, and he has been featured in IEEE Spectrum and in NSBE’s recent 2008 publication, “Top 50 Sexiest Engineers.”

The King is interested in a faculty position at a research-I university.
